Two army battalions to be deployed during LB polls

At least two battalions of Pakistan Army would be deployed as quick response force on the day of local bodies election in Lahore.

An important session over the upcoming LB polls was held between the policemen and district government officials. The participants discussed strategies made to monitor the elections whereas a comprehensive talk over the deployment of armed forces was also carried out.

It was decided that as many as two army battalions will be on patrolling in the metropolis while no political party would be allowed to arrange office in front of any other party’s office.

The security personnel were also directed to halt candidates from gathering at sensitive places.

Moreover, the session also focused on ensuring every kind of security to the people and candidates.

Earlier, ECP banned broadcasting of unofficial and inconclusive results of local bodies elections on Media.

The secretary ECP Babar Yaqoob after chairing a key session over upcoming LB polls in Punjab and Sindh has ordered the media personnel to not on air any result which is not confirmed by the authorities.

He strongly urged the media to follow directives and barred it from claiming any election’s outcome without approving from concerning returning officers.

ECP while reviewing its earlier proposed schedule decided to hold first phase of local bodies (LB) polls in Punjab on October 3. The electoral exercise will be held in 12 districts of the Punjab.

Polling for the second phase will be arranged on November 19 this year in Khanewal, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, M.B.Din, Attock and Jhelum districts.

Moreover, the third phase will commence on December 5 in Lyyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhawalpur, Rajan Pur, Rahim yar Khan, Multan, Rawalpindi, Muzaffar Garh, Narowal, Jhang and Khoshab. Various religious parties had requested change in the date since Imam Hussain’s (RA) ‘Chehlum’ is going to be held on December 3.
