Parliamentary committee approves regularisation of eight additional judges of LHC

The parliamentary committee on judges’ appointment in superior judiciary on Wednesday approved the confirmation of eight additional judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) as permanent judges.

The committee considered the recommendations of Judicial Commission of Pakistan and confirmed the names of Justice Arshad Mahmood Tabassum, Justice Muhammad Tariq Abbasi, Justice Ch Muhammad Masood Jahangir, Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan, Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi, Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmed, Justice Shahid Karim, Justice Mirza Viqas Rauf, additional judges of the Lahore High Court as judges of the said court.

The meeting of the parliamentary committee held in parliament under the chairmanship of Senator Farooq H. Naek and attended by Senator Raja Muhammad Zafar ul Haq, MNA Ch Mahmood Bashir Virk, MNA Muhammad Arshad Khan Leghari and MNA Syed Naveed Qamar.

The Committee also approved the extension for a period of one year in the tenure of Justice khalid Mehmood Malik, Justice Ch Mushtaq Ahmad, Justice Masud Abid Naqvi and Justice Ch Muhammad Iqbal as Additional Judges of the Lahore High Court.

In addition, the committee also considered the nomination of DSJ Ghulam Qadir Leghari, DSJ Abdul Ghani Soomro, Muhammad Iqbal Maher, Khadim Hussain M. Shaikh, Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan, Mahmood A. Khan, Muhammad Karim Khan Agha, Anwar Hussain and Muhammad Faisal Kamal Alam and confirmed their names for appointment as additional judges in the Sindh High Court for a period of one year.
