Addresses reception held to celebrate China’s 66th Independence Day

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that China which is celebrating its 66th Independence Day has become the second biggest economic power of the world whereas in the 68 years since our independence, we haven’t succeeded in removing poverty, ignorance and unemployment from the country.

Addressing a reception held in connection with the 66th National Day of China at the Chief Minister’s office, Sharif said that the direction of Chinese leadership and the nation had always been singular and correct, which is why China had achieved growth rates of 9.9 percent and foreign exchange reserve of $4 trillion. Pakistan, on the other hand, had sometimes adopted basic democracies system, sometime a presidential system, sometimes a martial law and sometimes a thing in between. He said that the country of Quaid and Iqbal suffered a huge loss as a result of these haphazard policies.

The reception was attended by Governor Punjab Malik Rafiq Rajwana, Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong, Consul General Yu Boren, provincial ministers, members of national and provincial assemblies, columnists, intellectuals, investors, senior officials of Punjab government and people belonging to various walks of life.

Sharif said that it was a great pleasure for him to participate in two functions of the great and friendly country China in one day. He said that China was celebrating its 66th Independence Day and that 180 million Pakistanis were celebrating with it.

He said that while Pakistan had become an atomic power and its labourers and farmers were hardworking and nation was capable, but the elite of the country had dragged the motherland to the current state.

Sharif said that instead of raising hue and cry on the negligence and past mistakes, we should learn a lesson from it. He said that Pakistan had taken first step in this journey under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and all segments of the society had been a part of the effort. Sharif said that the opposition of the country should also put its share in the progress of the country. The chief minister said that Pakistan belonged to all of us and we all had to take it forward jointly.

The Chief Minister congratulated Chinese leadership and nation on its Independence Day on behalf of Punjab government, and the people of the country.
