The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday approached the Lahore High Court for obtaining physical remand of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qasim Zia in connection with a scam of over Rs 80 million.

NAB officials requested the court to hand over the PPP leader for recovery of the looted money.

The court then asked them about Zia’s offer of plea-bargain, upon which the NAB lawyer said the authorities were examining it.

After the arguments, the court adjourned the hearing till September 23, and sought a final reply from the NAB.

The former PPP Punjab president, one of the directors of Ali Usman Securities Company, was arrested on August 8, 2015 for alleged involvement in an Rs 80 million scam.

The NAB had received more than 80 complaints of cheating/fraud against the former Olympian and others. After being part of Pakistan hockey team from 1980 to 1987, Zia was elected MPA from Punjab on a PPP ticket and remained the opposition leader between 2002 and 2007.
