Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has taken notice of an increase in fees of private schools.
According to reports, the prime minister directed all the provincial governments to ensure affordable fee to extend relief to the masses. He also decided to soon convene a consultative meeting of all the provincial chief ministers to look into the matter.
Parents of school-going children have been protesting against excessive hike in fees in different areas of Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. Protesting parents urged the authorities to devise a mechanism to maintain a check and balance on private institutions and monitor their fee structures.
Meanwhile, private schools in the federal capital have withdrawn increases in fees following the PM’s notice of the issue.
The education minister, secretary CADD and other officials met with principals of private schools in Islamabad. The stance of the parents was given during this meeting after which all principals decided that the fee hike of Rs 12,000 would be withdrawn.
