MQM richest party with Rs 210.88m income in 2013-14: ECP

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released the audited details of the political parties’ assets for financial year 2013-14 on Tuesday and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) emerged as the richest political party in terms of annual income.

According to Article 13 of the Political Parties Order 2002, all political parties must submit the details of party accounts and statements to the ECP. The statements must be audited and consolidated by chartered accountants prior to submission.

Under the law, a political party is bound to provide information about annual income and expenses, sources of its funds as well as assets and liabilities within 60 days after the close of each financial year.

According to ECP, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was richest political party with total income standing at Rs 210.88 million during the financial year 2013-14. In its statement, MQM has revealed that the money was collected through donations and funds.

The income of PML-N stood at Rs 10.67 million whereas the expenses were of Rs 30.07 million. The total worth of the party’s assets is Rs70.47 million.

The PTI has expenditures of Rs 160.17 million while the income was Rs 100.27 million. It has Rs 90.15 million in its bank accounts.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) income was Rs 10.45 million while the expenses were Rs 20.54 million.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) income was Rs 800, 000 and the party spent Rs 3 million during the financial year.
