Sharif receives Kerry’s call shortly after Modi’s

US Secretary of State John Kerry Tuesday telephoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed issues of mutual interest.

“Secretary Kerry, who hashed out the regional situation with the PM Sharif at length, praised the efforts of Pakistan in improving ties with war-torn Afghanistan during the telephonic meeting,” a statement issued said.

Sharif received Kerry’s phone call shortly after talking to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

Secretary Kerry commended the state of relations between the two countries and said both countries had made remarkable progress in bilateral cooperation in all fields. He appreciated Sharif’s counterterrorism policy and his strong resolve and determination to defeat terrorism.

During their warm and friendly exchanges on the regional situation, Secretary Kerry lauded Sharif’s commitment towards establishing a peaceful neighbourhood in South Asia. Sharif said that Pakistan attaches high importance to enhancement of ties with the US. The PM said Pakistan’s economy has stabilized during last two years and there are opportunities for foreign investors to benefit from investor friendly policies of the government.

Both the leaders expressed the desire for further enhancing bilateral ties between Pakistan and the US particularly in the field of economy and trade.
