The Education Department has issued show-cause notices to around 300 teachers for staging a demonstration against the excesses meted out to them by education officials.

The teachers took to the streets against the faulty examination system of the Punjab Examination Department and the offensive attitude of the education officials.

The EDO office has asked the headmistresses of all schools to furnish the attendance registers  of teachers to ascertain whether they were at the school or taking part in the demonstration.

Teachers associations, meanwhile, have strongly condemned the show-cause notices issued to the teachers, threatening to protest against the move if they were not withdrawn.

The teachers alleged that the education officials have resorted to third-rate tactics to elude their own negligence.

The teachers’ unions have demanded that they take back the show-cause notices.
