Addressing the Parliament after Chinese President Xi Jinping’s speech, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday said that Pakistan and China would continue their journey to achieve common goal of development, progress, peace and stability. He hoped that mutual cooperation between the two countries will be further expanded in the next 15 years.

Presenting a vote of thanks to the Chinese president after latter’s address to the joint sitting of the Parliament, Sharif declared China’s security as Pakistan’s security, adding that Pakistan stands by the people of China in upholding their solidarity. He said at international level, Pakistan firmly stands by its policy of One China.

Sharif termed the Chinese president‘s visit as historic and said it will open new avenues of cooperation between the two countries.

“We are trusted friends, brothers, neighbours and time tested partners and our friendship is like iron. All political parties in Pakistan are on the same page to have robust ties with China in all fields. We both will continue efforts to curb the menace of terrorism and will even intensify our endeavours to accomplish our goal,” he said, adding that both the countries are working jointly for the stability and peace in Asia and beyond.

Moreover, the prime minister said the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a joint effort of both the countries which will result in generating more economic opportunities and bringing prosperity in the region. He said all the provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir will benefit from this corridor.

He hoped that Chinese president’s visit will go a long way in increasing people to people contact between the two countries and both the countries will be able to achieve their goals of peace, stability, development and prosperity. He also thanked China for its contribution to overcome energy crisis in Pakistan.

“Xi Jinping is so close to our heart as he is equally popular in Pakistan as in China. It is also a historic day for the Parliament and people of Pakistan that our special guest has addressed our Parliament. I hope mutual cooperation between the two countries will be further expanded in the next 15 years,” Sharif said.
