KARACHI:

Sindh Apex Committee agreed on Friday to install a biometric system for the by-election of Karachi which is to be held on April 23, according to sources.

The decision was made in a meeting attended by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Governor Ishratul Ebad, Corps Commander Karachi Naveed Mukhtar, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Bilal Akbar and other officials.

As per local media sources, it has been agreed that the National Database Regulatory Authority (NADRA) will be asked to install a biometric system to ensure free and fair elections.

However, MQM has opposed this idea, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have replied in the affirmative.
