As many as 547 ducks were received in 700 innings of 352 World Cup matches since 1975. The 392 batsmen received these ducks with Pakistan’s Ijaz Ahmed and New Zealand’s Nathan Astle shared the top position in the list with five ducks each. Ijaz Ahmed received five ducks in 22 innings of as many matches while Nathan Astle got same number of ducks in 20 inning of as many matches.
West Indian Keith Arthurton, South African Abraham de Villiers, Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq , Ireland’s Kyle McCallan and Indian Kris Srikkanth shared the third spot with four ducks each.
The highest number of ducks were scored in the 2003 and 2007 edition while the first World Cup in 1975 saw the lowest number of ducks.
A total number of 95 ducks were scoerd in the 2003 World Cup in South Africa and 2007 World Cup in West Indies. In the 1975 World Cup 19 batsmen unable to open their accounts on 20 occasions.
As many as eight batsmen failed to open their account in the final match between West Indies (3) and England (5) at Lord’s on June 23, 1979 which is the record of most ducks in a World Cup as well as in limited overs international cricket.
