Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Secretary Muhammad Azam Monday visited the on-going IDPs Relief Mela at Lok Virsa Complex.
The seven-day festival titled “IDPs Relief Mela” is being organized by the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) to generate funds for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of tribal areas.
The main features of the event include artisans-at-work exhibition, folkloric song and dance ensembles, performances by rural musicians, traditional cuisine, display by public sector organizations and NGOs, craft bazaar and many more other attractions.
On arrival, the secretary was warmly received by Lok Virsa Executive Director Shahera Shahid. He was taken around the cultural pavilions set up at the Mela, especially artisans-at-work exhibition featuring master artisans from different provinces and areas, promotional stalls set up by NGOs, Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) and Directorate of Electronic Media and Publications (DEMP).
The secretary, who is the vice chairman of Lok Virsa Board of Governors, also met senior officers of Lok Virsa and appreciated their efforts for organizing such event in a professional and befitting manner.
Later, the secretary witnessed authentic folkloric performances which were greatly appreciated.
It may be mentioned that forty master artisans of various specialized craft areas such as embroidery, block printing, lacquer work, doll making, truck art, wood carving, namda and gabba, metal work, shawl weaving, needle work, traditional carpets, blue pottery, wax printing, stone work, pattu weaving, mirror work, jewellery, etc. from different provinces, regions and remote areas are exhibiting their skills at the Mela.
Apart from artisans, a group of folk artists, folk musicians and rural performers, attired in beautiful traditional costumes, are also taking part in the Mela to enthral the visitors with their fabulous performances.
The festival will continue till Thursday, October 23.
