- Municipal workers say if govt pays them half the amount it’s paying to Turkish company, their workers will perform their work more amicably
Opposing granting of contract of Solid Waste Management and Cleanliness of Rawalpindi to a Turkish company, Municipal Workers League has demanded cancellation of privatisation of the organisation.
An emergency meeting of the union presided by Haji Farooq Khan adopted the stance that currently in Rawalpindi, 1,500 sanitary workers were working and if they were provided facilities, the union is ready to provide quality services at the half price of privatisation.
The participants said that after privatisation this work would be done at a cost of more than Rs 2 billion, which is 1 billion additional to what is being spent currently.
Union members said that Punjab government was giving billions of rupees to a Turkish company but is unwilling to pay them. They said if Punjab govt pays them even half the amount it’s paying to Turkish company their workers would perform their work more amicably.
An agreement was signed between Turkish company Albayrak and Rawalpindi Waste Management Company in Islamabad under which the Turkish company will extend cooperation regarding solid waste management in Rawalpindi and Murree.
Under the agreement between Rawalpindi Waste Management Company and Albayrak Company, cleanliness and solid waste management of 63 union councils, Rawalpindi city and Murree city have been outsourced.
