Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has termed the health, education and economic activities in Balochistan as disappointing, asserting that banned religious outfits are gaining roots in the province and no headway has been made for talks with separatists in Balochistan.

“Over the past five years, 200,000 people from the Hazara and Shia community, 100,000 settlers and 10,000 Hindu community members, Christian community members, Persian-speaking tribes, Supreme Court lawyers, former parliamentarians and Grade 19 and Grade 20 officers have migrated to other provinces and foreign countries due to the deteriorating law and order situation and escalating corruption in Balochistan,” said HRCP Chairperson Zohra Yusuf at a press conference Sunday.

HRCP founding member and renowned lawyer Asma Jahangir was also present.

“Participation of nationalists in elections was a good step but as expected no headway could be made in talks with Baloch separatists. The problem of missing persons has minimised but still mutilated bodies are being dumped around the province. Mine workers are working under insecure conditions. Journalists’ entry into the Civil Secretariat has been banned. The government has not taken measures to provide employment. The federal government should meet the expectations of the people of Balochistan following the 2013 polls,” said Yusuf, adding that the government should meet the requirements of the people of Balochistan to reduce resentment amongst them.

She said HRCP was not allowed to go to affected areas of Kalat to take stock of massive graves.

“Owing to poverty, people are headings towards civil war. Local Bodies elections were held in Balochistan last but this system has yet to be made functional. A new process of targeting Zikri sect in Balochistan has started which is of grave concern. None of the 40 killers of journalists have been caught so far. Under a plan, banned religious organisations were being strengthened.”

She alleged that former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikahr Ahmed Chaudhry violated democracy and Constitution.

“We contacted Balochistan chief minister, chief secretary and home secretary to visit Tutak area of Khuzdar where reportedly 40 bodies were found but we were not allowed to go. We are not satisfied by the Judicial Commission report because dead bodies of two brothers were found from Tutak.”
