The director general Punjab Rangers on Friday said India is not just violating the ceasefire but fighting a small-scale war with Pakistan.

Briefing journalists at the working boundary, DG Rangers Major General Tahir Javaid Khan said though the aggression appears to be military, there could a political agenda behind the recent border clashes.

Khan provided a breakdown of firearms used in the ceasefire violations between 2010 and 2014. According to him, Indian Border Security Force (BSF) used 3.48 million small firearms on the working boundary during the stated period. More than 30,000 mortar shells have also been fired between the aforementioned years.

“Such a large amount of ammunition is not even used in a full-scale war,” he said.

Denying allegations that Pakistan started firing on LoC, Foreign Office said border clashes were initiated by India and the armed forces are only responding to Indian aggression.

As firing began on the first day of Eidul Azha on 193-km long working boundary, thousands of firearms have reportedly landed in Pakistan.

On October 6 alone, over 51,000 small arms were fired across the boundary, while on October 7, more than 4,000 mortar shells were fired. Exceeding the previous number, India fired over 6,000 mortar shells on October 8.

  1. It was Pakistan who first violated ceasefire on the eve of Bakri Eid first. India retaliated the same way. Now, every Pakistani is denying that. Please note my dear brothers, your Government has no control over your military. Your military has no control over Jihadis and you jihadis have no control over the international terrorist like ALQAEDA, ISIS. Your soil is turned into a safe heaven of International Terrorist now and every Nation in the world knows that. If Pakistan keeps on supporting these terrorists, that day is not long, when Pakistan might be vanished from the world map.

  2. Hmm..Actually It was Pakistanis which fired up on our Posts. India has nothing to gain by firing mortar shells. India is concentrating more on luring foreign investors, and a shrewd leader like Modi knows that an unstable border would be deterrent to the cause.Secondly If border people get displaced due to firings it will be a political wrong move. (our army fires bullets only when ordered by the political leadership).

On the other hand Pakistan has more than one reason. Firstly whenever there has been internal turmoil in Pakistan ,there is firing on the LOC. The anti India feeling acts as a uniting force in Pakistan. The media diverts its attention from the crisis in home to crisis on border. Winters are coming , passes will be closed. So we know very well that rangers will try to send those jihadist they train into India. (to bleed India with thousand cuts). These firings are a great cover. Within past 15-20 days 30 militants have been killed on the border trying to infiltrate.

Indian leadership has changed and in the wake of provocation it has given the armed forces a free hand in dealing with Paksitani agression, with an order to fire “only in retaliation” but make sure that they hit the enemy very very hard, and that’s why heavy shelling from Indian side.
Pakistani general have a win win situation. They can now tell the pakistani public and the world why it needs to spend more on defence, and why it should concentrate more on India than on Waziristan where it had litlle success.
