At least 12 people, including a policeman and a political worker, were killed in Karachi over past 24 hours during fresh wave of targeted killing in the provincial capital.
According to police and rescue officials, unknown persons dumped three bodies near Malir river the other morning.
Police said the victims, identified as Amir, Pervez and Kalu, were tortured to death after being kidnapped. The corpses were shifted to Jinnah Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
A bullet-riddled dead body was recovered near Sparco Road in Baldia Town locality of Karachi.
In overnight violence and drive-by attacks, at least eight people lost their lives after firing incidents were reported in Orangi Town, Shah Faisal Colony and Shah Latif Town.
Two dead bodies warped up in a blanket were dumped by bikers in Jadim Goth area of Malir.
Report said dozens of policemen have been killed in the city in targeted attacks over the past eight months. “Policemen are being frequently targeted in Landi, Quaidabad, Korangi, Baldi, Orangi, Manghopir, Pirabad, Sohrab Goth and North Karachi localities in broad daylight,” DIG West Zone, Tahir Naveed told media.
He suspected involvement of banned outfits in recent target killing of law-enforcers.
Reports said special warnings had been issued to policemen to be cautious in sensitive areas.
