LAHORE – No load-shedding was carried out during the India Pakistan match but extra power outages were witnessed before and after the match on Wednesday.
The load-shedding started early in the morning and there were closures with repeated intervals. Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) officials said extra load-shedding was carried out to overcome the shortfall that had mounted owing to an outage-free match. They said there has been no load-shedding during nine hours, when the match was being played, and it was necessary for PEPCO to carry out extra load-shedding.
In normal days, around five to eight hours of load-shedding is carried out in the jurisdiction of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO). “We have to follow this schedule and therefore extra load-shedding was done,” said a LESCO official.
However, the consumers complained about electricity tripping of five to ten minutes during the match. “There have been no load-shedding but the electricity was closed repeatedly for short intervals during the match,” said a consumer Sajid Irshad adding that before the match there were continuous power closures and load-shedding started after the match as well. The consumers said market, banks and offices were mostly closed on Wednesday and the power demand remained low and there should not have been a need for power outages after the match.
