Cylinder blast in Barki ice factory kills one, injures another

LAHORE – Muhammad Ikhlaq, 20, died while his cousin, Suhail sustained injuries when a cylinder filled with ammonia gas exploded in an ice manufacturing factory in the Barki Police precincts on Sunday. The deceased was a resident of Hadyara village and a cousin of factory owner, Suhail, who also was injured.
Edhi officials said the two were alone at the factory when a cylinder filled with ammonia blew up. The blast was so intense that it damaged all chillers and cylinders installed within the ice factory. As a result, Suhail and Ikhlaq were buried under heavy pipes and cylinders. In the meanwhile, ammonia gas continued to leak from thet cylinders.
Some locals immediately gathered the scene and they before the arrival of Rescue 1122 or any other rescue agency pulled Suhail out from the debris, while locals remained fail in recovering Ikhlaq who as a result died because of Ammonia Gas. Rescue 1122 officials after reaching the scene provided medical aid to Suhail and shifted him to a nearby hospital while pulled out the body of Ikhlaq from the debris.
A rescuer said that Ikhlaq died because of ammonia gas and when he was recovered he was spitting black liquid out from his mouth. Police after reaching the scene handed over the body of the deceased to his family.
Murder: A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death on old enmity in the jurisdiction of Lower Mall police on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Nadeem, son of Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Gulashan Riaz Colony. According to police, the victim had quarreled with the accused murderer few days back due to some unknown reasons and the matter was resolved later. Police said both accused and the victim had been working at a same place for few years.
On the day of the incident, accused Akhtar Hussain with his accomplice Gada Hussain, called the victim to his house and gave him a cup of poisons tea. When Nadeem (the victim), became unconscious, they stabbed him to death. Police reached the scene and arrested suspicious Akhtar and his accomplice Gada on the complaint of deceased’s heirs.
Accidents: A young man was knocked down and killed by unidentified speeding car in Thokar Niaz Baig Area. The police said that the deceased was identified as Muhammad Shabbir, who was trying to cross roads on Kattar Bund Road in Thokar Niaz Baig Area when an unknown speeding car coming from behind knocked him down due to which he received multiple injuries and died.
A 30-year-old man was crushed to death by a recklessly driven tractor trolley in the limits of Shera Kot police. Police quoting locals said the victim, yet to be identified, was going some where near Babu Sabu Interchange when a recklessly driven tractor trolley ran over him.
Appeal: A 14-year-old rape victim along with her mother has appealed Chief Minister and Chief Justice during a press conference at Lahore Press Club on Sunday. The victim Sakina Bibi, daughter of Bashir, a resident of Ajnayanwala (Farooq Abad) claimed that the accused Syed Kalim Shah and Chand Guru raped her on gun point when her cousin Shahbaz Bhatti took her into the house of one accused Syed Kalim Shah few days ago.
She said in tears that police have joined hands with the accused as it had arrested only one accused Chand Guru. “Police has given soft corner to Syed Kalim Shah and Shahbaz Bhatti and also threatening them to withdraw their case, otherwise they should be ready for more actions.
It is worth mentioning here that the victim family had approached IGP Punjab Javed Iqbal on 14th of March during an open Katchehri and IGP assured that justice would be done in their case and further directed concerned officers to submit compliance report within 10 days but concerned police officials failed to arrest the other accused of this case so far.
