The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has protested against the alleged extra-judicial killings of their workers by the police and Rangers.

During the question-hour session of the Sindh Assembly, Faisal Sabzwari asked who had given the law enforcement agencies the authority to shoot the accused instead of presenting them before the courts.

Sabzwari said no one had the right to kill any accused and he called for immediately stopping the process of silencing their workers with bullets. He said the MQM supported the provincial government in legislation but the government had to make the prosecution process better. The accused must be punished through courts as no authority had the mandate to kill the accused, he added. If a person is accused of committing some offence, he had to be presented before the court, he demanded.

On the protest of MQM, Minister for Information Sharjeel Memon said many of the police encounters were not fake and he demanded the MQM to hand him a list of its workers facing criminal charges.

He said the government did not direct the law enforcement departments for alleged extra-judicial killings and the government had no policy to hide the arrested accused. Whoever was the accused would be presented before the court, he added.

The MQM must give them the lists of their workers if they were missing and they would cooperate in getting them recovered. Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani advised both the parties to sit together and sort out the matter.
