The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday trashed the recent controversial observations of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) regarding family laws.
The CII last week had declared that wife’s permission was not necessary to remarry. The PTI is the first political party to reject the CII’s version of Islam.
PTI sources told Pakistan Today that the core committee discussed the matter and supported the existing family law, terming it in accordance with Islam.
“There is nothing contrary to Islam in these laws. This law has stood the test of time and provided protection and security to women,” said an official statement, adding that the DNA should also be accepted as evidence in rape cases – another controversial decision of the CII earlier last month.
“Some members of the PTI even observed that CII’s chief, Mohammad Khan Sherani, had become controversial and should be removed from his office as his appointment was a result of a deal between the former PPP government and JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman,” a source said.
However, he added that PTI Chairman Imran Khan objected to the observations and said that people should not be discussed.
Imran Khan provided a fact sheet about ‘Sehat ka Insaf’ launched in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that the programme has been lauded internationally and other provinces were trying to emulate it. The core committee praised transparency in the programme.

  1. In Islam there is no provision of Second marriage. It is stated that one wife would be replaced by another. More than one marriage was allowed if people could afford in the times of war, when many women were left widowed and children orphaned to give them protection.
