The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has warned the government that presenting unnecessary conditions at the preliminary stage of the peace talks could mar the process.

In a statement issued after the first phase of meeting of the TTP intermediaries with Taliban Shura on Monday, TTP Spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said that the TTP committee comprising Maulana Yousaf Shah and Professor Ibrahim held a meeting with Taliban Shura and presented the government’s demands to them.

He said the demands presented by the government for peace talks were conveyed to the top TTP leadership after which they were discussed at length, and they responded positively.

He further said the TTP, in a bid to move forward the peace talks process, also put forward their preliminary demands which the TTP committee will convey to the government committee.

During the meeting, Shahidullah said it was agreed upon to maintain a better environment and to move forward with the peace talks process gradually and avoid any haste.

“Both sides should show forbearance and patience for the irritants each side could come up with during the talks,” the statement concluded.
