Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday took notice of hike in prices of vegetables and pulses and directed authorities to check it.
He also directed Agriculture, Food and Livestock departments to evolve short, medium and long-term planning for stocking vegetables, pulses and other items to stabilise their prices in future.
Talking to lawmakers and party workers, the chief minister said it was government’s responsibility to ensure the availability of quality essentials in abundance at low prices. He said Punjab, being a food basket, was meeting the country’s 70 percent food requirements.
He directed officers concerned to visit markets daily to ensure stability of prices of vegetables and fruit and warned that no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
The CM also stressed more activism from district price control committees and said they should ensure the sale of essential items at fixed rates and improve the performance of market committees.
The chief minister asked the elected representatives to visit vegetable markets and bazaars to check price hike.

  1. For God`s sake. The Punjab government must take urgent and on emergency basis steps to control the hiked prices of essential items in Lahore. These items are locally made and manufactured, but why the prices are not in and control..it is proposed that in Lahore in every street a Consumer Committee must be set up and managed and controlled by the Chief minister Mian Shehbaz Shareif and severe actions must be taken against the violators and most probably the quality and quantity must also be seen.
