State Minister for power Abid Sher Ali alleged that power theft is on rise across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, asking Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan to help prevent this menace.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, he alleged that power theft was even rampant in constituencies of provincial ministers.

He said line losses were running up-to 90% in the area of provincial minister Shah Farman.

He said people of several areas, including Matni of Peshawar, did not pay electricity bill, warning that power supply to the defaulters, including Bannu, would be disconnected.

Abid Sher Ali said theft is theft, no matter where it takes place, and power thieves will face jail terms of up-to 3 years and a fine of Rs 1 million.

He warned that areas with higher line losses will have to face load shedding of up-to 20 hours.
