As many as 40 alleged terrorists are confined in interment centres at scattered areas of Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (FATA).
Sources told Pakistan Today came to know that interment centres in the tribal agencies have been established by FC and armed forces. A few of them such as Alizai and Parachinar in Kurram Agency, Ghalanai at Mohmand and Fort Saloop in Khyber Agency have high-profile militants from banned groups.
Sources also said that as many as 20 militants are from Mohmand Agency whereas six are from Khyber Agency. Rest of the militants belong to other areas of the tribal belt. Three belong to Charsadda, two each from Peshawar and Dir whereas one each belongs to Buner, Haripur and Rawalpindi. One of these militants belongs to Afghanistan.
According to officials, Abdul Wali, son of Arab Khan Afghani alias Maulvi Omar, is considered top amongst occupants of these interment centres. Omar had served the slain Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Baitullah Mehsud as spokesman for around two years. He was picked up by tribesmen from a village in Mohmand Agency on August 17, 2009 and later airlifted by secret agencies to an unidentified place. Officials confirmed that he was confined at one of the interment centers in FATA.
Official documents reveal that most of these militants were shifted to the interment centers in August 2012. They have been produced before physicians and are said to be in satisfactory condition.
