250 suspects arrested in Peshawar search operation

At least 250 suspects were arrested during a joint operation by law enforcement agencies (LEAs) personnel in various areas of Peshawar.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, SP City Ismail Kharrak said that police and security forces personnel launched operation in different localities of Peshawar including Dir Colony, Hazar Khwani and adjoining areas.

He said that during search operations over 250 suspects who failed to clarify their identity or provide computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), other identity documents and possessed illegal weapons were taken into custody.

The LEAs personnel also recovered arms including 15 pistols, five rifles, five Kalashnikovs, a repeater and hundreds of rounds from the possession of the detainees.

Separate cases were registered against the nabbed accused at concerned police stations and investigation has been started against them.

SP City said that search operation was the part of security measures being taken before Muharram and in the face of of terror threats as Taliban have announced to take the revenge of Hakimullah’s death in US drone strike.

He said that security has heightened with deployment of additional security personnel at sensitive locations, increase in police patrol and strict checking at check posts installed across the city especially at entrance and exit points.
