The city witnessed violent protest demonstrations over the increasing number of sexual harassment incidents and assaults on underage girls.
The most recent incident took place in the city area of Garjakh where a seven-year girl was allegedly subjected to attack and dumped later in Rajkot.
The incident incensed the local residents to mount protest. They also went on a rampage forcing the closure of shops.
The baton-wielding demonstrators asserted that the government does not seem to take any action against the culprits. Police officials, having engaged the protesters in negotiations, dispersed them on the assurance that action will be taken against those responsible for the crime.
