The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered the government to appoint a new chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) immediately.
The order was given during the hearing of a case pertaining to law colleges by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
In his remarks, the CJ asked why the government is not serious in appointing a new chairman of HEC. He further said that if the government is unable to make the appointment, it should appoint an acting chief to run the affairs of the public institute.
He also expressed displeasure over the sub-standard law colleges affiliated with the universities. The court ordered all the universities to hold strict inspection of all affiliated law colleges for the provision of standard and quality education.
