- UN offered to help Pakistan but the government is fully capable of facing the challenge, says Pervaiz Rashid
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid has said that state institutions were capable to deal with the situation in earthquake affected areas of Balochistan.
“The government has released funds to provide tents, food and other basic facilities to the earthquake victims,” he added.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said that many countries and United Nations (UN) had offered to help Pakistan but the government decided to face the challenge itself.
Replying to a question, he said that the government would evolve a policy for giving priority to the Balochistan earthquake victims in Prime Minister Youth Schemes.
The minister said that Prime Minister (PM) Muhammad Nawaz Sharif would represent Pakistan at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. “The PM would raise many issues including Kashmir at the session,” he opined.
He observed that the country had lost a lot of lives in war against terrorism, adding that the government was committed to maintaining peace in the region.
He was of the view that the meeting between Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would be helpful in building good relations among the two neighboring countries.
Replying to another question, the minister hoped that the decision regarding National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman would be taken soon in consultation with the opposition leaders.
Moreover, he stressed the need to develop transparent accountability system in the country to end corruption.
