City police thwart terror bid, 5kg bomb, explosives recovered, accused held

Police thwarted a terrorism attempt on Friday by seizing explosives and arms from a coach in the limits of Badabar Police Station.

According to details, the police had received a tip off about the smuggling of explosive devices from the tribal areas to Peshawar for terror attacks.

The police spotted a suspected coach at a security checkpost and told the driver to stop. The driver tried to speed away and was chased by the police.

Police sources say the accused, identified as Burad Ali, started firing at the police party. Ali was injured in retaliatory firing by the police and was shifted to hospital.

Later, the flying coach was searched, leading to the recovery of a five kilogramme bomb, a revolver and others explosives.

The Bomb Disposal Squad was called to diffuse the explosives.

The police have cordoned off the area and started a search operation.
