LAHORE – Gender Mainstreaming Units of the Education, Home, and Services and General Administration (S&GAD) departments conducted a training workshop on “Women’s Participation in Public Sector Employment and Challenges” on Monday. A large number of female employees of these departments participated and expressed their views on gender equality issues in the country.
The speakers said male-dominated family systems, culture and norms of the society were becoming an obstacle in achieving gender equality and women were being denied their rights in the workplace and at home. Adviser to the Chief Minister Zakia Shahnawaz Khan Niazi, who was the chief guest, and School Education Secretary Muhammad Aslam Kamboh, who was a special guest, said the Punjab Gender Reform Action Plan (GRAP) was working for gender equality across the province.
Education Department Gender Specialist Rehana Anwer said GRAP’s goal was to bring about changes in the structures and processes of the provincial government to promote gender equality and to deliver rights and entitlements.
