- CIA cops allegedly buy four ‘Taliban’ from intelligence agency, report them to be their latest catch
When police call you at a press conference to brag about its performance, you can brace yourself for an exquisite display of performing arts. Nothing beats the sight of a police official blowing his horn about his latest catch – especially when the catch is not so latest, and importantly not his!
The latest press conference called by CIA SP Umar Virk and DIG Investigation Zulfiqar Hameed at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Station to enunciate their gallantry in catching four ‘Taliban’ on Monday seemed quite impressive until reliable police sources told Pakistan Today that the men had been caught by an intelligence agency three months ago.
Sources reported that as many as 13 people, including three women, responsible for the attack on National Academy for Prisons in Rasul Park, Ichhra, in July last year, which killed 10 police wardens and injured 22, had been under custody by an intelligence agency in Defence B area.
The 13 people, also involved in more than 40 cases of kidnappings for ransom, attack on the Sri Lankan team, attack on military officials at Chenab River in Gujrat last year and murder of more than 30 men, were caught by the intelligence agency about three months ago, sources said.
While Virk and Hameed talked big of their heroic operation, sources informed Pakistan Today that the CIA was in cahoots with the intelligence agency and had ‘bought’ 4 out of 13 men from them.
The four men caught by the police were identified by DIG Investigation Zulfiqar Hameed as Karamat Ali alias Goshi, a resident of Kasur, Zulfiqar Ali alias Zulfi, a resident of Waris Colony, Lahore, Afzal alias Sohail, a resident of Okara, and Abdul Hafeez alias Umair, a resident of Kasur, who, according to the DIG have confessed that they belonged to the al Qaeda group of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He said that police arrested them from Minar-e-Pakistan upon receiving information about their arrival.
As the cops get their claws a manicure while the press pats on their back, it still remains a question as to where are the remaining 9 terrorists? Are they still with the intelligence agency, awaiting the next trade offer or have they managed to buy themselves out?
Shamefully, no wonder there is so much lawlessness in this country.
