Eleven police officials including one inspector, one sub-inspector, six assistant sub-inspectors (ASI’s) and three constables faced disciplinary action on Tuesday, over poor performance and involvement in corrupt practices. According to details, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Islamabad Yaseen Farooq, conducted inquires into the complaints against police officials and took disciplinary action against 11 cops of the police. One inspector was demoted to the rank of Sub-Inspector for conducting poor investigation and four ASIs were reverted to the rank of head constable over involvement in corruption. Two years were deducted from the services of a sub-inspector and a constable over poor investigation and lack of interest in job affairs. Two-year increment of an ASI was also stopped while an ASI and two constables were dismissed from their services over corruption charges. Renewing the commitment to root out the menace of corruption and make Islamabad police corruption free, Farooq said that no one from the department would be allowed to indulge in embezzlement and a policy of zero tolerance against corruption would be pursued. Farooq said the police had started an accountability system to monitor the performance of the police officials and those involved in dereliction of duties, negligence, poor investigation, absence and corruption would not be spared. The SSP said an accountability system helped in improving the performance of any department and the staff’s work could be easily judged through it. The accountability system would continue in future and those performing well would be encouraged, he maintained.
