Queen Mary College fee enhanced

The Lahore Queen Mary College Board of Governors on Monday approved an increment in the annual tuition fee from Rs 6,000 to Rs 6,600 annually.

The income gained through this enhancement would be utilised for recruiting new teachers and other staff when required on an emergency basis.

While presiding over the Board of Governors’ meeting, Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan directed that formal rules for temporary hiring be formulated, adding that the principal would be bound to acquire the Board of Governors’ prior approval before recruiting additional staff in the college.

Further, the minister directed the Higher Education Department to identify grey areas in the college’s management and ensure that college funds were being utilised according to the Treasury Rules 1988.

He also expressed his resolve to transform all the autonomous educational institutions into centers of excellence and ordered an annual performance audit of all the teachers at QueenMaryCollege.

The college’s budget for the current financial year was also approved in the meeting, and retrospective approval was accorded to the expenditures incurred during the fiscal year 2012-13.

The meeting’s participants were told that the Punjab government has allocated Rs. 140 million and a separate Rs 5 million as grants to the college from the Provincial Consolidated Fund, in addition to Rs. 80 million collected from the students as the College Welfare Fund.

MNA Shaista Pervaiz Malik, former MPA Ghazala Saad Rafique, educationists Dr. Khalid Hameed Sheikh, Perveen Awan and Dr. Saeed Ahmad Nagra participated in the meeting as well as public personalities like Aamir Khalid Sheikh and Reema Ayyaz. Junior officers of the Higher Education and Finance Department were also present.
