Even though several doctors have advised PTI chief Imran Khan to go abroad for treatment, Khan is determined to stay in Pakistan as his doctors and close physicians have expressed “satisfaction” over his recovery so far, Pakistan Today has learnt.

Admitted in Shaukat Khanum Hospital for several days after the fall from a forklift during a political rally before elections, Khan was advised “complete” bed rest for two weeks. Now there is a rising concern among everyone, especially PTI supporters, about his recovery.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Dr Faisal Sultan said there was a range of opinions which they received from various doctors, which also included suggestions to take Khan abroad.

“However, we have consulted various senior doctors, both here and abroad, read medical literature available and decided after a consensus that he should stay here,” Sultan said, adding that the decision was still not final.

“We monitor Khan’s recovery on a daily basis. He has had complete bed rest for two weeks and now he is being given physiotherapy and is not immobile,” he added.

There was a growing concern among people when one of his doctors suggested that he might be taken abroad for further treatment as his condition was “critical”. Khan’s well-wishers and supporters have been abuzz on the social media. “Mashallah. You will get well very soon. I am praying for you,” a girl commented on Khan’s photograph uploaded on the PTI’s facebook page showing him lying on the bed.

However, many visitors after having met Khan expressed sorrow over his condition.

But Dr Faisal dispelled all such impressions, saying there were so many visitors coming in and we do not want to comment on anyone’s intentions.

“So far Khan is alright, if there is a need that we feel, we are willing to take him abroad, as it is not about our ego, but about his health.”
