World No Tobacco Day observed

World No Tobacco Day has been observed on 31st May every year in the entire world and the public was given awareness about this important matter of health. This year under the tile of “Ban on Advertisement of Smoking, its Promotion and Patronising”, World No Tobacco Day was observed for creating awareness among people regarding opting for a healthy life style.
Various seminars and health sessions under the Karachi Health Department for emerging importance of this day were being held whereas awareness programmes with reference to importance of this day in health centres of all towns of the metropolis were being held as well, in which experts would create awareness and consciousness about harms of smoking.
A seminar with reference to World No Tobacco Day to avoid smoking and be safe from its side effects was held in Sindh Government Hospital New Karachi. Deputy MS Dr Laiq, Incharge medical ward Dr Masood, Dr Faiza and Dr Rehana addressed the seminar and discussed the causes and factors of smoking. They said that causes of smoking included access of thinking about difficulties, social phenomenon, being safe from exhaustion, getting relief from grief and interest of smoking but its side effects were destructive.
All body parts were affected by side effects of smoking especially mouth, livers and heart which caused cancer and finally death, therefore avoiding of smoking was only source of protection from cancer and other side effects.
Health Education Officer Shakeel Ahmed gave a review of advertisements promoting smoking and urged participants that they should avoid smoking. He also provided people with information about sheesha smoking restaurants and urged prevention from them.
