One hundred and twenty-one newly-elected members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly were administered oath on Wednesday.
Outgoing Speaker Kiramatullah Khan Chagharmatti administered the oath to newly-elected MPAs.
The first-ever session of the KP Assembly began with the speaker, Chagharmatti, in the chair. Before the oath-taking ceremony, Chagharmatti congratulated the new MPs and hoped that they would fulfill the expectations of the electorates.
In his brief but comprehensive remarks, Chagharmatti expressed satisfaction over the completion of the election process and transfer of power to another elected government.
He said holding and participating in the general elections amidst serious threats of terrorism and violence was a great task, which was completed with the blessings of the Almighty.
Without mentioning any political party’s name, Chagharmatti said, “For the done and undone sins of the previous government, candidates belonging to prominent parties suffered and I am one of them.” However, he hoped that now, when the people have elected new representatives, they are hopeful that their new representatives will perform well.”
Later, the speaker administered oath to the newly-elected MPAs. In first phase, 120 MPAs were administered oath and signed the roll log. In the second phase, one female MP was administered oath.
Ameer Haider Khan Hoti of the ANP, Akram Khan Durrani and Naeema Kishwar, both from the JUI-F, were not administered oaths as MPAs as all three have also been elected to the National Assembly.
Hoti and Naeema have already decided joining the National Assembly but Durrani has yet to make a decision in this regard.
With Naeema going to the National Assembly, Roomana Jalil, daughter of Abdul Jalil Jan, has been was elected to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly against reserved seats.
The PTI become the major political force with 55 members in the House of 124, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl is second with 17 MPs, while the PML-N is third with 16.
Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao’s Qaumi Watan Party won 10 seats in the KP Assembly, Jamaat-e-Islami, ANP and the Jamhoori Watan Party five each and the PPP has won three seats. Two independents are still maintaining their identity in the House.
