Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) has alleged that Karachiites are being targeted under a planned conspiracy by reducing gas supply and affecting power supply to the provincial metropolis.

Talking to a private TV channel here on Sunday, KESC spokesman alleged that SSGC officials had privately disclosed their plans to turn Karachi into Lahore in terms of power outages.

He said despite payment of Rs42 billion in the last 18 months, and despite clear Sindh High Court orders, SSGC had reduced gas supply to KESC which had in turn badly affected the utility’s power generation capacity.

Replying to a question, he said the federal government could not take back 650 MW of power supply from Karachi till 2015, but even if they did so, it would increase load shedding in the city by eight more hours, while it would bring relief of a maximum of 30 minutes in Punjab.

  1. Not to forget that 650 MW power plant he is talking about is situated in Punjab and by the new amendments people of punjab has first right on this power so people of Karachi let us have our 30 min of electricity because we are the ones who pay the bills(ours and YOURS).

  2. Dani: if this the case then SIndh's gas cant go to Punjab. Punjab consumes 50% of the gas produced in Sindh…what to do now? Take 650 MW and give our 1500MMCFD gas to sindh……

  3. @Dani 650MW coming in from WAPDA is 'purchased' by KESC; not a charity gesture by WAPDA, which has over 17,000 MW of generation capacity… Get your house in order and your plants running before turning it into an us vs them situation; quite shameful….
