Police install cameras to enhance security during polls

Sindh IGP Shahid Nadeem Baloch, while chairing a meeting on Tuesday, said that police under its election security plan has installed 930 CCTV cameras at 164 identified sensitive sites in the metropolis.
It was mentioned on the occasion that with the support of a donor agency, 2,000 more such cameras were also being installed at 400 new locations in the city to improve vigilance.
IGP Shahid directed the Police Department Information Technology Director Tabbasum Abid to materialise the plan on war footing.
He further directed that identification of 400 new locations must be made in accordance with recommendations made by the DIGs of the metropolis.
The meeting, held at Central Police Office Command and Control Centre, extensively reviewed the surveillance and monitoring arrangements made under the plan.
Officials attending the meeting expressed their satisfaction that over the functional capabilities of the CCTV camera and assured the IGP that direct coverage of the security arrangements was enabled while the system was being manned by trained and competent policemen.
Furthermore, police had prepared a fleet of 48 police mobiles fitted with surveillance cameras in areas where the facility could not be urgently provided.
The IGP was informed that another fleet, comprising of 52 such police mobiles, would be prepared prior to May 11. Similarly, trackers have been installed in all police vans and other related vehicles, the officials informed.
Moreover, The tracking devices fitted into official vehicles have been directly connected with the command and control centre in order to warn the nearest police van or mobile about any suspicious activity in their surroundings.
Meanwhile, IGP Shahid directed the Madadgar 15 squad to develop a schedule of police department at police stations’ level and get these prominently displayed at different points across the metropolis.
This would enable masses to immediately report any unusual or suspicious activity to the police department, command and control centres and mobiles through the official police helpline 15, he added.
