Without getting the approval of Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, the Finance Ministry has re-hired the services of Masroor Qureshi as Finance Division’s director general of debt of with the mandate to manage the whopping rise of public debt.
“The services of Qureshi have been re-hired by the Finance Ministry until further orders who also assumed his charge on Thursday,” official sources quoted the notification issued by Finance Ministry said.
Official sources in Finance Division claimed that there was no need to get approval of PM on rehiring of services of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) employee on deputation basis. However, another senior bureaucrat when contacted said that the newly hired DG Debt of Finance Ministry would utilise different perks at the cost of national exchequer so the approval of PM was mandatory for this appointment. Press Secretary to PM Shafqat Jalil confirmed that they were not aware of any such appointment. “We don’t know about this appointment,” he added.
Spokesman for Finance Ministry, when contacted said that the approval of PM was not required for this appointment because Qureshi’s services were re-hired on attachment basis.
When asked why approval was sought last time on his appointment, the spokesman said that earlier he was appointed in MP-1 so it required approval of the premier. Now this time the Finance Ministry has allowed usage of official vehicle only and did not provide him MP-1 so all such perks can be given by the ministry itself, he maintained.
