ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani slammed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leadership once again on Tuesday for accepting turncoats and said it was preferable for the Pakistan People’s Party to sit in the opposition rather than indulge in politics that went against the people’s trust and were based on personal interest.
Gilani told National Assembly members Riaz Hussain Pirzada and Jamshed Khan Dasti at his chambers that the government had taken every possible in the last three years to promote democratic values and it would continue its principled and issue-based politics in future. The PM said that the selection of new cabinet members had been made very carefully, keeping in mind public support.
All members of the cabinet, including women, were directly elected members of parliament, he said. The size of the cabinet had been reduced to demonstrate the government’s resolve to implement the 18th Amendment, he said, and other political entities in the country should also set an example by following the norms and values of true democracy.
