614 Rawalpindi candidates file papers for elections

As many as 614 candidates have filed their nomination papers for contesting General Elections 2013 for seven National Assembly and 14 provincial assembly seats in Rawalpindi.

According to details, as many as 203 nomination papers were filed for National Assembly seats while over 411 candidates filed their nomination papers for contesting General Elections 2013 for provincial assembly seats.

As many as 20 candidates have filed their nomination papers for NA-50 (Murree), while 26 papers were filed for NA-51 (Gujar Khan) seat. There are 21 candidates in NA-52 (Chontra Shakrial) while 28 candidates submitted their papers from NA-53 (Taxila) and 38 nomination papers were filed for NA-54 (Cantt Sadder). 39 candidates for NA-55 and 31 for NA-65 have come forward to contest the upcoming general elections.

Prominent politicians including former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, former opposition leader Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, former federal ministers Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and Sardar Saleem, former National Assembly members Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Malik Ibrar, Shakeel Awan, Haji Pervaiz Khan, Hanif Abbasi, former justice Syed Intikhab Shah, Sheikh Irslan Hafeez, Khan Sajjad Khan and advocate Ali Kurd among others have also filed their nomination papers in Rawalpindi. Former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf submitted the nomination papers from Gujar Khan.

A total of 20 political parties have field their candidates in Rawalpindi. Four women candidates including Rehana Riaz of MQM (NA-52) and Hina Manzoor of PTI (NA-55) have filed their nomination papers. Seven women candidates’ nomination papers were submitted for provincial assembly seats.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) started issuing nomination papers on March 24, which were filed till Sunday late night. The scrutiny of candidates will be carried out from April 1 to April 7. The appeals will be filed against the candidates from April 8 to April 10 and processed from April 11 to April 16.
