The Punjab Textbook Board (PTB) failed to arrange for a supply of books while the new academic year is about to start on Monday.

Like previous years, students of both private and public schools who have been promoted are facing problems as several books of the Punjab Textbook Board are not available in the market.

Parents have urged the concerned authorities to ensure the availability of textbooks in the market so that children could start their studies without wasting any more time.

According to a survey conducted in this regard, many textbooks of Punjab Textbook Board, including mathematics books of class 7 and 8, science books of class 7 and chemistry, physics and biology books of class 10 are not available in the market, whereas parents and students are trying their level best to find them.

Amjad, whose son studied in class 7 in a government school said, “I searched for mathematics books in various markets of the town, but in vain”.

He urged the concerned authorities to ensure the availability of the textbooks and also requested school teachers not to force children to bring the books which were not available in the market.

Booksellers in Urdu Bazaar and Saddar said that the parents’ complaints about the non-availability of some textbooks were true.

They said they were informed in mid March that they would get the books within a few days but there were still no signs of the text books.

A spokesperson of Punjab Textbook Board said a few days ago that only the textbooks of Class 7 were not available in the market but now their availability was being ensured.

He also claimed that the textbooks of Class 3, 7, 8 and 10 were available in the market.
