Ministry seeks report on govt houses rented out

Ministry of Housing on Saturday sought a report from district administration Islamabad on homes rented out by government employees which had been allotted to them for their own use. The ministry also directed authorities to secure possession of government homes from illegal occupants.

Housing Ministry had conducted a survey for over 16000 houses under the orders of Supreme Court (SC) from March 25 onwards. As per initial statistics, 490 government houses which had been allotted to government employees for their own use had been rented out by them and 306 official residences were under the use of illegal occupants. Moreover, 457 houses were found locked.

The ministry of housing had established a monitoring cell under the orders of the SC. The ministry had sought help from police to secure possession of the illegally occupied houses.

It may be recalled here that the housing ministry is holding charge of 18000 government houses and applications in this regard are pending with the ministry.
