Seven members of Punjab Assembly, belonging to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), on Thursday went on a hunger strike against the Punjab government.
Talking to journalists, they demanded immediate action on Asghar Khan case verdict.
Earlier, MPA Imdad Pitafi pointed out that no action had been taken against the politicians accused in the case, including Nawaz Sharif, who was allegedly involved in rigging the 1990 elections in order to defeat the PPP, a private TV channel reported.
The members, who were part of the hunger strike, included Sajida Mir, Najmi Saleem, Sagheera Islam, Nargis Awan and Farooq Yousaf Ghurki among others.
The hunger strike camp is likely to continue until the assemblies are dissolved or a case is filed against the Sharif brothers and the money is retrieved.
At least 10 members will sit in the camp till eight in the morning and are likely to be joined by 10 other members in the evening.
After PPP members started protesting outside the Punjab Assembly, their counterparts in the Sindh Assembly also started a hunger strike.
Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro, Sindh Minister for Women Development Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto and Sindh Law Minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro were among those protesting on the steps of the Sindh Assembly.
The protestors demanded federal interior minister to take action against the politicians who took money from the national wealth and if nothing was done in the next 48 hours, they would stage a protest outside the Prime Minister House.
They also requested the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take immediate action.
