Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Friday took notice of two rape incidents reported by the media and sought reports from district and sessions judges regarding steps taken by the local police along with their own comments in a week.
According to the details, the accused, Iqbal, Nazim and Shoukat deceived the two sisters of Factory Area District Sheikhupura for providing them with employment and gang raped them. The case was registered at Factory Area Police Station on complaint of the mother of the victims but the police failed to arrest the rapists and the aggrieved sisters, along with their mother, set themselves ablaze in front of said police station. However, due to timely intervention of the people, they were saved.
In another incident, one minor girl, Rabia, 9, of Okara was gang raped by the bother of her teacher and his friend. The case was registered at Baseerpur Police Station but the sections of gang rape were not added by the police and the accused got bail as a result of the lesser charge. The father of ill-fated girl alleged that the police was in connivance with the accused party instead of helping the victim.
These news reports caught the attention of the chief justice and detailed reports from the respective district and sessions judges have been sought.
