This is with reference to the news “NAB has no trust in SC bench”(29 Jan). The Supreme Court is the highest judicial forum in the country to administer justice and it is sad that the decisions of the SC are not implemented or ridiculed so openly. How strange it looks that Chairman NAB has written a letter to President of Pakistan complaining against the Chief Justice of Supreme Court. The NAB prosecutor has objected to the constitution of the bench hearing Kamran Faisal’s case. The Attorney General is also not happy with the SC.
The Supreme Court took a suo motu notice of Faisal’s death last week; the government has also appointed judicial commission to probe the case. Once a case is in the Supreme Court, there is no need to have a judicial commission. The NAB prosecutor general also raised objections on the appointment of amicus curiae in this high profile case.
People are watching the ongoing tussle between the judiciary and the executive. They are not interested in what happens to the cases but are interested in that there should be no finger pointing on the judiciary while hearing a particular case. The mere fact that case is in the apex court draws the attention of the world. It is strange that every action of the SC is challenged knowing well that the appeals ultimately will be heard by the same court. Should we say that the law is meant only for the poor and the principle envisaging that everyone is equal before the law exists only on paper?
Media has a responsibility to come to the help of judiciary. It is important as it is the media that breaks all types of news for the information of the general public and can present facts before the courts to provide justice.
There is urgent need to uphold the honour of the apex court. Individuals come and go but institutions stay. We all must strengthen the institutions, instead of weakening them.
