At least four people including three abductors and a robber were killed while two police personnel were injured in separate police encounters on Saturday. A boy kidnapped for ransom was also recovered.
Per details, the police conducted an operation in College Chowk of Sahiwal to recover a boy abducted from Fareed Colony. During the operation, the kidnappers opened fire at the police team injuring two cops. In retaliatory fire three robbers were killed on the spot while three of their accomplices managed to escape. However, the police managed to rescue the boy unharmed. The police also consfiscated Rs 1.5 million from the possession of kidnappers killed in the fire exchange.
In another encounter in Miranpur area of Vihari, one dacoit identified as Riyaz alias Doctor was killed while his cohort fled away. The police said that the robbers killed during the encounters were wanted by various police stations in a number of cases of robberies, picket looting, kidnapping for ransom and other crimes.
Moreover, at least four persons were killed and 25 others injured when a Dera Ismail Khan bound passenger bus collided head-on with a trailer near Hyderabad Thal area of Bhakkar. The police and rescue teams reached the scene soon after the accident and shifted to the Tehsil Hospital Mankera and District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Bhakkar.
Hospital sources pronounced condition of several injured as critical and a rise in death toll was predicted. The injured passengers said that the accident took place due to over speeding and reckless driving. The police took both vehicles into custody and initiated investigations.
