Punjab Governor Makhdoom Syed Ahmed Mahmud has vowed to take every possible step to stabilise and safeguard democracy by implementing the policy of reconciliation. In a meeting with federal minister and PPP Lahore President Samina Khalid Ghurki, Mahmud said politics was meant for people’s welfare.
“Political parties which work for the benefit of the people can never be defeated because their performance is assessed through good governance,” he said.
PPP Lahore Information Secretary Abid Hussain Siddiqui, Manzoor Hussain, Afnaan Butt, Tariq Shabbir, and other leaders of PPP were also present on the occasion.
Abid Hussain Siddiqui quoted Mahmud saying that whatever the people of Pakistan decide in the upcoming elections, they would accept it whole heartedly.
“I will play my role in holding transparent elections,” the governor said.
“I am the governor of every street, every person and every political party. The doors of the governor house are open to everyone,” he added.
Samina Khalid Ghurki said PPP was the biggest democratic party of the country and was the custodian of democracy.
“We have respected public opinion in the past and will continue to do so in future,” she said.
