One of the two key suspects in Shahzeb Khan’s murder case, Siraj Talpur, was arrested by police on Saturday near a village in Moro in Dadu. The arrest comes following suo moto notice of the murder by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhary who had ordered arrests of the accused by Saturday. According to sources, the police was initially reluctant to take action against the suspects owing to their affluent backgrounds. However, the cold blooded murder which was brought to the limelight through social media activists, got the apex court’s attention a few days ago following which it ordered immediate arrests, threatening action against police officers in case of non-compliance. Following these orders, police came into action and raided various addresses in Islamabad, Karachi and Hyderabad. Sources said police also arrested two brothers of Siraj Talpur from Citizen Colony, Hyderabad. A man was also arrested during a raid in connection with the case from the federal capital. On Saturday, police raided a house in a small village near Moro within the jurisdiction of Dadu district and arrested Siraj Talpur, one of the key suspects in the murder. DIG South Shahid Hayat told Pakistan Today that the police had succeeded in arresting one of the prime suspects from Moro. He will be shifted to Karachi within the next two days, he said. Three other people, Imdad, Sajjad, and Ghulam Murtuza were also arrested after several raids in Hyderabad and Sukkur. Shahrukh Jatoi, the other major suspect, is still at large and is reported to have escaped to Dubai. Earlier in the day, police had also recovered a car, allegedly used in Shahzeb’s murder from Khaybane Badr, Defence.
The vehicle, with a number plate reading “Moro V” was traced back to one Asif Lund, who police believe was also present at the crime scene. The 20-year-old Shahzeb was fatally shot in his car near Mubarak Masjid in Phase V of Defence House Authority on December 25, allegedly by Shahrukh Jatoi, son of Sikandar Jatoi, and Siraj Talpur. After the incident, both suspects fled to Sukkur and went into hiding to escape arrests. Later, Sikandar Jatoi told media personnel that his son had left for Australia. However, it has now been revealed that he has fled to Dubai.
