The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Human Rights Cell paid rich tributes to late Benazir Bhutto on her 5th death anniversary. While talking to APP, the PPP
Human Rights Cell Central Coordinator Dr Nafisa Shah said that though five years had passed since the unfortunate incident took place, but Benazir was still alive in the hearts of the people. This was the reason that a large number of people from all over the country, got together every year on December 27 at her tomb and prayed for her blessed eternal life, she added. She said that Benazir was determined to confront the dangers being faced by the country. “The forces of democracy must and will prevail upon dictatorship and extremism. I will not be intimidated. I will step out on the tarmac in Karachi, not to complete a journey but to begin one.” she quoted her as saying.
On her arrival to the country, she began the new journey towards election and democracy at the cost of her precious life, and the people of this nation were separated from a great leader.
These five years of democracy must be dedicated to her memory as she was the architect of the whole plan of leading democracy, constitutionalism and fundamental rights in this country, Nafisa added. She further said that her towering courage and her absolute commitment to the people of our country helped bringing down the dictatorial edifice. And today, we could proudly say that the PPP had led the agenda for the restoration of rights and freedom in this country.
Following her vision of reconciliation, President Asif Ali Zardari brought together all political forces, Nafisa added. Moreover, she said that in her last speech, Benazir promised the nation that she would confront the evil of terrorism and extremism in this country. President Asif Ali Zardari had followed her mission with dedication and was committed to rooting out terrorism and extremism from Pakistan. The violation of rights of minorities, minority sects, women and children, the attack on the right to education, to health, to freedom of expression, to every right to the life, had been shaking the foundations of this country, Nafisa observed.
